Hello World. Time to Break out another Travel/OOTD post.
Sometimes you don’t have to fork out thousands of rands for a beach holiday and paradise might be closer than you think. I came to this realization on a recent road trip to Arniston.A small seaside village in the Overberg region close to Cape Agulhas.
A mere two-hour + drive from Cape Town, Arniston has all the r’s you need: rest, recoup & relaxation. The Arniston Hotel has a picnic menu which is perfect for a day spent at the beach. On our way back from the beach we drove pass these quaint white washed stone cottages some offering arts & crafts or home-cooked meals.
The peace & quiet that a small town brings made me want to go on more road trips and discover more small towns with quirky cafes where you can buy homemade jams & koeksisters from taanies with purple hair . For the love of travel & adventure.
If you looking to be more than just a beach bum on your holiday click here, I’ve got you covered. Thank you to @Edwillmp for hosting us and showing us his hometown & @Capetourismcn for his gracious hospitality.
Please share your local road-trip gems & secret hideaways with me below. As always thank you for reading , with all my love F xx
Hello World. Is it just me or do things get crazier the faster festive season approaches?! I guess that means its time to Break out a “How to” self care post .
Having received an email from one of my readers starting an interesting conversation about self care (Hi Emily) this was a blessing in disguise because what is self-care really? It seems I had completely forgotten how to unwind.
And because I have recently been under the weather, this forced me to take some much needed me time. Today I’m sharing my top five things to do when you don’t know how to take care of yourself.
Light a candle:-The first thing that helped get me into ” chill out” mode was lighting candles, if this doesn’t create a relaxing atmosphere for you nothing will.
Pamper party for one: Now that the mood is set, I knew my skin was screaming for some attention. Using my favorites: ie charcoal mask & She’zen body re-hydrate my skin was feeling the love in no time. Now on to my hair, eyebrows, & nails. Nothing beats clean hair, fresh nails, soft skin & perfectly shaped brows.
Right or Write: If there is one thing that calms me its writing. Whether it be a blog post, priority list, bucket list or journal-ling. Whatever makes you completely forget about life’s day to day worries do that.
Blending is my cardio: Whatever your bliss is, find it & never let it go. For me it is playing with my makeup. Creating new looks, trying to perfect my cut crease and experimenting with a new make- up technique.
Back to the basics: And if you’ve done all of this and you still feel ‘meh’, lets go back to the basics . Drink some water, have a snack, grab some sunscreen & get some sunshine.
In a world where we often feel guilty when we are not busy & only validated when our priority lists are a mile long, its time to cut the b.s. This past week has reminded me why its important to put myself first. My mental health is more important to me than the fear of saying “no”. Thank you for reading lovelies. What is your number 1 self care tip? Please share in the comment section below. With all my love xx
Hello World. How exciting is it that I get to Break Out another Monday Must Have post. Well it is for me anyway.
Lets get into it. Today I’m introducing you to the Kiki Luxury Skincare brand and more specifically the Cool Citrus Setting Spray. This is another item I received in my BSS Beauty Expo swag bag, along with a sample of the Natural Radiance moisturizer & Face Primer ( shout out to Coco for going out of her way to arrange my swag bag & ticket after it sold out).
Description taken from the website:
KiKi’s Make-Up Ready Cool Citrus Setting Spray is a gorgeous, light and silky, citrus enriched product which is sprayed over your make-up in order to set and hold it for longer periods of time. KiKi’s Make-Up Ready Cool Citrus Setting Spray, Step 5 of the Make-Up Ready process, not only locks down your make-up, but spraying on this extra fine mist also gives you a refreshing boost. Don’t let those dry days get you down. The Cool Citrus Setting Spray can also act as a secret weapon to provide instant moisture and hydration. Just whip it out of your handbag, any time, any place, give yourself a quick spritz and immediately find a new, more radiant and moisturised you. This product is free of synthetic fragrance and suitable for both dry and oily skin types. It contains aromatic, natural grapefruit oil to cool and calm the senses.
Let me just say out of the bundle the Cool Citrus Setting Spray is my favorite. To test it I used it before foundation, after foundation, after my make-up was done and spritzed my face once more during a night out. Obsessed much?! I also used it on a brush to intensify my highlight & eye-shadow.
The smell firstly is a biggie for me, because of my sensitive skin & sinus, the citrus tone is not overpowering as I feared. The Cool Citrus Spray also covers the two p’s. Price & Packaging. It’s reasonably priced , at 245ZAR for 100ml. And then lets not forget about the gorgeous packaging, I can hardly believe this is a local product. Simply put I’m so impressed by this local brand , I will be repurchasing it when I run out.
As always thank you for reading. If you have tried and absolutely love any other Kiki products please let me know.
Hello World. Today, I’m breaking out with my first OOTD (Outfit of the Day) post. Last week I introduced Kalathea Clothing, you can read the article here. This week I’m giving a sneak peek of some items their launch range will have.
Outfit details. Crepe scuba dress in olive with pockets, 3/4 slit sleeve and zip detail. It retails at R380.00. The overdress I’ve worn here is actually a full length rose-pink viscose button down shirt dress with pockets which comes with a belt. It retails at R420.00.
I was quite apprehensive posting this. Would the post be as good as my peers. What if it’s not professional enough. There was also a minute I struggled with how my tummy looked, my insecurities kicked in. I couldnt look at the pictures. I was channel hopping & “Hair Spray” was on. For some reason this was just the motivation I needed. I’m thinking to myself, “Really , you don’t like your tummy, toughen up”. Pep talk over, inspired to change the world I realised that the body positive movement did not happen over night. It took moments like this , not liking yourself, but learning to not only accept what you considered to be your flaws but love what you looked like. This is the end goal. Different maybe, but different is beautiful.
And as Tracy says in Hairspray ” … it’s changing out there! You’ll like it. People who are different, their time is coming!” And that time is now. Be different! If no one likes that, tough. Just be you. Authentically you. As always thank you for reading!
Hello World. It’s been a minute and I’m happy to share another Women Supporting Women in Business post on this beautiful Friyay. Women supporting Women in Business is a networking event I started a few years ago & now I’ve extended that to a WSWB section on the blog. This initiative is close to my heart because I love nothing more than when women empower each other and at the same time it allows me to support local.
Today I’m excited to introduce you to Kalathea Clothing. Kalathea Clothing is an upcoming local brand owned by sisters-in-law Khadeeja and Koebraa. The purpose of the brand is to provide breastfeeding friendly modest wear that is trendy & versatile but at the same time chic & elegant. More importantly, the brand caters for plus sizes up to 3xl with plans to expand the plus size range in the future.
Khadeeja and Koebraa the powerhouse(s) behind Kalathea Clothing are sisters-in-law but refer to themselves as sisters. The sisters have a distinctive flare for fashion.
Kalathea Clothing came about when Khadeeja saw the lack of representation in the plus size market. She felt that plus size clothes needed to be more prominent and that fuller figured ladies should be celebrated.
For Koebraa, being a new mother of a now 4 month old, a 2 am breastfeeding session acted as a form of inspiration. She realized just how challenging it was for her to find appropriate breastfeeding friendly clothing that was modest yet stylish. There was a clear niche in the market and she wanted their business to address that niche.
The name Kalathea comes from the plant genus Calathea. “Since both of our names start with a K we replaced the C with a K so now the name was connected to us somehow but there was something more important about the meaning. Calathea plants are often gifted as a symbol of new beginnings or happiness and has connotations with ‘turning over a new leaf’. This was the perfect symbolism for our new endeavor and Kalathea was born.”
Kalathea Clothing launches August 26th 2017 and will be available at a local market hosted by Frilly Lilly at Ambiance. After which you will find them at most local markets in and around Cape Town.
As a parting thought I asked Koebraa & Khadeeja to share their number one tip when it comes to being a stylish momma.
Koebraa: Wow it’s so difficult to choose just one [laughs]. I think that I would say to just be yourself. Wear what you think feels good and what makes you feel good about yourself. Even if it means not following whatever trend is out there. Create your own trends if you must. That’s certainly something I live by.
Khadeeja: I think one should wear the garment and not let the garment wear you. This way you will always feel that you look good.
Remember when you support & love local not only do you improve the economy but you also promote a strong sense of “community”! Women are the foundation of any community! Build them up!Celebrate their successes! In my book its a “win-win”for everyone involved. As always thank you for reading!
Hello World. Its Monday and time for another Monday Must have post. As the ultimate lazy girl trying to live my best life, today I want to share some of my daily make up hacks which gives me a few extra minutes to spend under the covers.
I love a two in one product. I use my Dolce & Gabbana concealer as an eyeshadow & lip primer, I use it to neaten my brow area and recently I discovered I can use it over my dark eyeshadow base, while trying to perfect a cut crease. It makes the colors stand out so much more & it’s changed my eye makeup game.
Another versatile product we all love is Vaseline. Besides moisturising, taming fly-aways & making your perfume last longer, my favourite Vaseline hack is dabbing a dot of product over my eyeshadow, for a beautiful glossy lid. The glossy lid is quite on trend now & you can get this look at home in less than a minute.
3. Colour Correcter
I suffer from dark circles which no amount of sleep will ever fix. Not being one to buy a million products I use my trusty Nyx “Pure Red” matte lipstick under my foundation to colour correct. It’s a win for me everytime.
I line my eyelash curler with black liner , so when I curl my lashes I line my eyes at the same time. This handy tip comes from Google & I was pleasantly surprised when it actually worked.
For the past few months I have been without liquid eyeliner. My hack until I hit the shops, is using an angled brush, spritzing it with setting spray and dipping into my Essence “All about Greys” eyeshadow palette. It gives me perfect, intense winged eyeliner & no one can tell the difference.
Please share your make up hacks with me. As always thank you for reading my beauty Queens & Kings.
Hello World. It’s been a minute. Today I’m breaking out a “Monday Miss” and “Monday Must Have”.
A few weeks ago I passed a Signature Cosmetics store and thought I’d have a look around.I have never purchased from them before but I’m always on the lookout for a new quality makeup. Their Miss Signature Just Matte and Miss Signature Matte Stick lipsticks caught my eye.
When I got home I tried the Miss Signature Just Matte lipstick first, oh boy. I now know why Kylie’s Lip kits & Mac’s Retro Matte’s are so pricey. The Miss Signature Just Matte Lipstick had a sticky feel to it, thinking it would go away after a few minutes, I waited a bit longer but to my disappointment it just got worse. My lips stuck together and because of this it eventually took the product off my lips. This is not the best formula & today this is my “Monday Miss”.
I then tried the Miss Signature Matte Stick. Now this did not disappoint. The colour pay off is great & leaves lips feeling moisturized. I paired my Miss Signature in the colour “Black” #14 with my Kylie “Dead of Knight” Lip liner as I hate it when my lipstick bleeds & liner just gives me a well-rounded look. I will try to find a more affordable lip liner and update this article.
My next colour was “Dark Purple” #7 which I paired with an Essence lip liner in the colour “Honey Berry”. I am in love with this colour.
What makes this even more of a gem is the price. It retails for R34-00 each. What!!!! I picked up two lipsticks on a special they had running for R54-00 What a score!!! I am so excited about this Monday Must Have because as much as I love spending my hard-earned cash on all my cult favorites I can’t resist a good deal. Make-up that doesn’t cost an arm or a leg , now that makes my heart smile.
