Red your Lips

As the saying goes ‘ Give a woman the right lipstick and she can conquer the world’ or is that shoes?! Either way lipstick has magical powers that can transform your mood, your day  and your life. To me red lipstick is the little black dress of cosmetics, a classic that every women needs in her arsenal of awesome. As much as your favorite party dress can lift your mood, the same is true for a good red lipstick. It has the ability to push your confidence from 0 to 100 in two seconds.

Lipstick dates back about 5000 years where ancient Sumerian’s crushed gemstones to decorate their faces and Egyptians, like the fabulous Cleopatra crushed bugs to create the reddish color. The symbolism surrounding lipstick have changed over the years, from being associated with actor, independence, status, prostitution to femininity , power and confidence booster.

Besides the aesthetic value, lipstick has lent its power to sexual violence . You may have heard of ‘Red my lips‘, founded by Danielle Tansino. A campaign created to raise awareness. Men and Women across the world rock red lips throughout Sexual Assault Awareness Month (April) in solidarity with survivors.

For me wearing Red lipstick is about my journey as a woman. One day fierce & confident and the next drowning in life and what it throws at me. I realize I might be luckier than most and wearing my red lips is a daily reminder of this.

My favorite ‘go-to’s’ right now is Essence in shade 02 “All you need is Red” for an everyday tint, which is really moisture rich. NYX -MLS10 in shade ‘Perfect Red’ for a more matte look, my old faithful Mac ‘Russian Red’ for Saturday morning ‘run-arounds’ & my favorite Mac ‘Retro Matte Feels So Grand’ for a night out. What does Red lips do for you?  Please share your favorite shades with me so I can take my red lips to the next level. As always thank you for reading!
